“World Humanitarian Drive (WHD)” Patron – HE. Anthony Carmona, 5th President of Trinidad and Tobago says Gandhi’s philosophies can be the balm to the social wounds.
In commemoration of the International Day of Non-Violence, celebrating the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.
HE. Anthony Carmona, 5th President of Trinidad and Tobago issued a statement.
“In navigating these times fraught with economic and social uncertainty, made worse by the ravaging impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, as a panacea, we can resile individually and collectively to the palliative tenets of Gandhism. Widespread personal grief, apprehension about our daily survivability, the increasing loss of jobs, strained social relationships, loneliness and social isolation with its corresponding mental wear and tear, characterize this seemingly never ending and hapless period. Inspired and inspiring leadership grounded in Gandhism, is probably what is needed from the top to the bottom in global societies. Compassionate, caring, meritocratic and service-oriented Leadership is waning and we need to reboot our sense of humanity if we are to ascend to the Nirvana that we seek and so desperately need.
Gandhi’s philosophies can be the balm to the social wounds of challenging communities and societies caught in the rip tide of dysfunction. There is a constant need to free people from the morass that envelops their daily lives, especially in a social environment where politicians honestly feel and are convinced that you can fool the people, not sometimes, but all the time.”
Happy Gandhi Jayanti, 2021!
