Farmers’Stir: Farm Bills can be kept on hold for one & half years to work out a solution: Govt.; Farmers stand will be clear on Jan 22

Farmers’ stir appeared heading for a breakthrough today with the government offering to put the three farm laws, the core issue, implementation in abeyance for about one and a half year to work out with a solution to the issue in consultations with farmers’ leaders.

The agitating farmers’ leaders have not responded to the offer and they will hold discussions among themselves tomorrow to articulate their stand on the offer during the 11th round of talks with the government on Jan 22.

After the Tenth round of talks, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar minced no words to articulate the government stand to the media on Camera. He said that during discussions, the government has said that it is ready to put on hold the implementation of three farm laws for one or one and half years.

Agri Minister exuded the confidence of the solution in the next meeting. He asserted farmers’ unions have taken this very seriously. and added that they would consider this proposal tomorrow and convey their decision at the proposed meeting on 22nd January.

 

He said that talks are progressing in the right direction and there is a possibility of finding a solution on the issues concerning farmers during the next round of meetings.

 

The tenth round of talks between the Central Government and farmers’ unions was held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi today. The meeting was attended by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Commerce, and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Som Prakash, and representatives of various farmers’ unions.

The next round of talks between the Central Government and farmers’ unions will be held on the 22nd of January.
