Farmers Rail Roko stir spills across nationwide
For a while after Jan 26 violence-marred tractors’ rally, it appeared that the ongoing movement for the repeal of three recently enacted Agriculture reforms bills will be relegated merely to a ” Former Stir instead of Farmers’ agitation ” , But within a couple of days, it gained a fresh stream with a slew of Mahapanchayats across various states in neighboring Delhi and Today, their two hours “Rail Roko” spread across the country with protestors squatting on tracks to halt the movement of trains.
“Farmers in great numbers are coming up to participate in ‘Rail Roko’ protest marking their aggression toward the center for passing farm bills. The massive event will be held today from 12 pm to 4 pm”, Kisan Ekta Morcha had tweeted soon after the stir began today.
Till this evening, no untoward incident has been reported so far, but the social media platforms are suffused with video clips and pictures showing farmers on the tracks, and in some pictures, they were seen offering cups of tea to stranded passengers.
The call was given by the Kisan Ekta Morcha, the movement’s umbrella organization. Farmers ran unabated their sit in Dharna on the borders of the national capital without any let-up though the presence of participants has dwindled significantly at Ghazipur, Sindu, and Tikri borders. The protestors claim that it was the sowing season of sugar cane, so they are taking turns to the stirring site without compromising their fie work.
Delhi metro had also shut the gates of some of its stations as a precautionary measure.
